A new digital project to rediscover one's origins and strengthen the bond between Italian communities around the world. Wearepaesani.com, the genealogical website created by Calabrian brothers Marco Toscano and Alessandro Mario Toscano, is now online.
Their ambitious goal is to become the largest online archive dedicated to Southern Italians, reference point for genealogists, researchers, local history enthusiasts, and all families wishing to reconstruct their past.
The WE ARE PAESANI project was created to offer millions of descendants of Italian emigrants, both in Italy and abroad, a simple and immediate tool for reconstructing their family history. Through the site, users can consult a constantly expanding database containing genealogical information relating to ancestors from Calabria, Sicily, Basilicata, Campania, Puglia, Molise, and Abruzzo, born between the early 19th century and the early 20th century.
The archive collects data drawn from numerous historical sources, including Italian civil records held in municipalities, state archives, parish registers and law court documents. These carefully indexed documents provide access to valuable information about one's ancestors, contributing to the reconstruction of family histories and local communities.
The project's long-term goal is extremely ambitious: to index over 10 million people from Southern Italy. This goal would transform WE ARE PAESANI into one of the most important genealogical archives dedicated to the Italian diaspora.
To date, the project has already achieved a significant first result: over 100,000 people indexed and available for online consultation. All interested users can access the database immediately after subscribing for free on the website.
