United Airlines will launch a new nonstop route between Bari in southern Italy and Newark Liberty International Airport, serving the New York area, starting May 2, 2026. This marks the first direct connection ever operated by a U.S. airline between Puglia and the United States, a significant step for the region’s international accessibility.
The service is part of United’s summer 2026 expansion and will operate on a seasonal basis, with four weekly flights scheduled through the peak travel period. Departures from Bari are planned for Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday at approximately 9:45 AM, arriving in Newark at around 2:00 PM local time. The return flight leaves Newark at 4:45 PM and lands in Bari the following morning at about 7:45 AM, offering a convenient overnight option for eastbound travelers.
Flight time is estimated at about 10–10.5 hours, depending on weather conditions and air traffic. The route will be operated using widebody aircraft such as the Boeing 767-300ER, equipped with multiple cabin classes to accommodate both leisure and business passengers.
United will be the only airline offering a nonstop option on this route, eliminating the need for connections through other European hubs. This is expected to reduce total travel time by several hours compared to traditional itineraries.
Initial fare data for 2026 shows economy roundtrip tickets starting between $600 and $800 for early-season departures in May, with prices rising above $1,300 during high-demand months like July. The new route is designed to meet growing demand from both American travelers visiting southern Italy and Italian passengers seeking direct access to the New York metropolitan area.
This connection is expected to strengthen tourism and business ties, as well as support the large Italian American community with roots in southern Italy.
