The Show With Vinny, TV review

MTV probably figures it can't go wrong with Vinny Guadagnino's new show, since it's got two proven winners from the reality TV playbook: a big, loud, zany Italian family and a guy who'll do anything in front of a camera.
Vinny, of course, is famous from "Jersey Shore." And since "Jersey Shore" has now washed into the ocean along with the Seaside Heights roller-coaster, MTV is looking to recycle its cast into shows of their own.

With Vinny, that means a half-hour program in which he invites celebrities and quasi-celebrities to his Staten Island home. They meet the aforementioned big loud zany family and then Vinny talks with them. Or not.
It's all good-natured. It's also random.
On the positive side, almost every episode seems to produce a few interesting moments.
When Vinny is driving with Lil Wayne, Vinny asks if he's ever been to Staten Island.
"No," replies Wayne. "Just Rikers Island."
When Vinny chats with Jenna Marbles, a star in the viral video world, he shows a clip of Jenna goofing on Vinny's old "Jersey Shore" colleague Snooki. Then he connects her to the real-life Snooki on Skype.
Snooki says she appreciates the attention, but didn't really like the bit. It's a fairly limp exchange with the most telling moment coming at the end, when Vinny and Snooki exchange "Love ya" goodbyes with an air kiss.
The Jersey Shore crowd goes Hollywood. Sadly, we knew that already.
You can't dislike Vinny. But the family gags wear thin quickly — obnoxious Uncle Nino, Vinny's mother fixing Lil Wayne "a plate" as he's leaving — and we may have to invest a fair amount of time for a modest amount of good stuff.
