More world records in Italy: this time we are talking about wine, more specifically the world's largest barrel located in the Langhe region and certified by Guinness World Records. If you want to see it, you have to go to the Roberto Sarotto farm in Neviglie, in the province of Cuneo, in the heart of the Langhe.

The dimensions of the barrel in question are remarkable: we are talking about 5 meters in height, 4.7 meters in diameter and 60 quintals of oak wood from Slavonia, in Eastern Europe, capable of holding something like 478 hectoliters of Barolo in aging. This barrel has been officially certified by the Guinness World Record as the world's largest barrel.

Roberto Sarotto and his son Enrico, current owners of the 90-hectare estate created in 1820 by their grandparents, explained that the barrel construction techniques have been the same for centuries and respect an ancient tradition.

The record-breaking cask is actually dedicated to their grandparents. However, something has changed in the current casks: there is more technology. For example, there are now probes and instruments that allow remote monitoring of temperatures and processes. In addition, the technologies applied in the "cooperage" to refine wines save energy and are more sustainable, with an eye on safety as well.

Currently the barrel houses a 2016 Barolo being aged that everyone is waiting to taste. Something like 63 thousand bottles will be obtained from this shipment, the proceeds of which will be partially donated to support cancer research.
