Umbria wins Italy’s top cycling tourism award with the Trasimeno loop

By: We the Italians Editorial Staff

Umbria has earned Italy’s highest recognition for cycling tourism, with the Trasimeno Loop receiving the Green Road Award 2026, often referred to as the “Oscar of Cycling Tourism.” The annual prize recognizes the Italian region that has made the greatest contribution to developing sustainable, accessible and high-quality cycling experiences while promoting local communities and cultural heritage.

The winning itinerary circles Lake Trasimeno, central Italy’s largest lake and the fourth largest in the country. Stretching approximately 60 km, the route combines dedicated bike paths, quiet secondary roads and scenic stretches that allow cyclists to explore one of Italy’s most picturesque landscapes at a relaxed pace.
