For nearly two decades, William R. Riccio Jr. has helped oversee many of Newport’s roads, sidewalks, beaches, parks, and major infrastructure projects. Now, the longtime Newport Director of Public Services has been recognized as one of the nation’s Top 10 Public Works Leaders by the American Public Works Association — marking the first time a Rhode Island public works professional has received the honor.
The prestigious national award recognizes 10 public works leaders from across the country for their leadership, innovation, and dedication to improving communities through infrastructure and public services. Riccio, who has led Newport’s Public Services Department since 2007, oversees engineering, capital projects, roadways, sidewalks, parks, beaches, recreation, waste management, fleet operations, and city facilities.
