Italian wine captures 23% of global exports after a decade of growth

By: We the Italians Editorial Staff

Italian wine has strengthened its position in international trade over the past decade, increasing its share of global wine exports from 18.7% in 2015 to 23% in 2025. The result confirms Italy as the world’s second-largest wine exporter by value, behind France, while demonstrating that Italian producers have expanded faster than many international competitors.

The figures come from a Nomisma analysis based on Trade Map data. They form part of a broader success story for Italian food and beverages, whose exports grew by 76% between 2015 and 2025. In 2025 alone, Italy exported €59.3 billion in food and beverage products, an increase of 5.1% from the previous year.
