Bologna, a city located in the Central Italy, is about to become the headquarters of the European weather forecast data center. Italy has always been strong in meteorology, but its ambitions to become the origin and the main base of the European weather forecast started when Bologna was selected as a new location or The European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF). The Centre was previously located in Reading, Great Britain, and was destined to move to a new place right after Brexit. The European commission has taken a decision to move ECMWF to Bologna before the 2020.

The European agreement about the ECMWF moving to Bologna has received more than 40 million euro of investments. The new European weather forecast centre will have a space of 9000 sq.m which will be completely ready before the 2020. The centre will host more than 300 researchers from more than 30 countries. It is going to be an international scientific establishment of the highest level.
