Taking over the space on Broadway currently occupied by Corretto is a new pizza venture from Karim Bonjrada, whose tiny Sicilian café in Magnolia, Mondello, has just celebrated its 13th anniversary. The name, Pizzeria 88, is a tribute to a nightclub that Bonjrada's mother, "Mamma" Enza Sorrentino, ran in Palermo, Sicily, before she joined her son in Seattle.
During the 15 years he has been in Seattle, Bonjrada has owned La Vita è Bella in Belltown, Divino Wine Bar in Ballard, and the Queen Margherita pizzeria in Magnolia in addition to Mondello. He has also sold pizza at farmers markets from a mobile, wood-fired pizza oven that he will now install at the Broadway location.
