Pizza is alive and well in Charlotte County

The pizza parlor business is showing big signs of growth here in Charlotte County. Just last month, I introduced Vic's Primo Pizza in the Punta Gorda area, and this month there's news of an expansion at Pioneers Pizza in Port Charlotte — not to mention the official ribbon-cutting for the not-so-new Bella Napoli Pizzeria & Restaurant, whose owner is ready to celebrate a new wine menu and his Italian heritage.

Pioneers, award-winning since opening in January 2015, will take over an adjoining shop to add 14 or so seats and a small bar, said Alyssa Paponetti, who owns the Tavern Square restaurant with brother Mike Barone. The expansion will be open in eight months to a year and is needed to keep up with the often-overflow crowd.
