Gallatin has a new local restaurant serving homemade Italian food, the way Connecticut natives-turned Gallatin residents Dave de Levie and Jason Heim remember it. "Everything is made from scratch," Heim, the chef de cuisine, said. The Italian Joint hosts its grand opening Wednesday on South Water Avenue, featuring house-made pastas, pizzas, sandwiches and more.
Highlights from the menu:
- Arancini: risotto shaped into a ball with pancetta, sausage, breaded and fried, served with marinara and pesto sauces
- Fresh pasta with creamy carbonara sauce, egg, peas and prosciutto
- Leafy broccoli rabe and sausage grinder, or oven-baked sandwich, with mozzarella
- Stone-turned New Haven-style pizza, or apizza, with crispy crust on the outside and a doughy inside
- Bread made and delivered daily from Provence Breads & Cafe
- Seafood delivered within 36 hours of leaving the ocean
- Wine and beer lists
