Stefano Versace is a true Italian - it's something he says you can figure out quickly from his accent. His passion for food stems from his roots in Italy, where he and his family owned a restaurant. "We come from a family that loves food and cooking," said Versace, franchise owner of Stefano Versace Gelateria and Italian Gourmet.
When the Versace family moved to Miami about a year ago, they wanted to give Americans a little touch of Italy. That's when they decided on one of Italy's best desserts. "We think, why not gelato? [It's] the best dessert, known in every country in the world, that comes from Italy," said Versace. "In Italy, we have 36,000 gelato stores, and in all of U.S.A. we have only 900." Versace wanted to do it right. He makes sure the items in his gelato shops were true Italian.
