New Yorkers are getting a taste of the French Riviera thanks to the recent debut of Mamo. The Provençal-influenced Italian restaurant, opened by Mike "Mamo" Mammoliti in Manhattan's SoHo neighborhood, is an offshoot of his family's popular Antibes, France, eatery, Mamo le Michelangelo, which has been a staple of the Côte d'Azur since it opened in 1992.
Chef Massimo Solo fires up Mammoliti family recipes and favorites inspired by the original. New York–based Riscala Agnese Design Group helped realize Mammoliti's vision for a Provençal interior, filling the space with whitewashed brick, exposed beams, marble tables, leather banquettes, and tweed stools. It was also important that the setting recall its French ancestor, which occupies the wine cellar of an old monastery.
