The mission of the Italian Trade Agency's campaign, "Italian Wine - Taste the Passion," is to educate consumers of the breadth, diversity and quality of Italian wines. Its aim is to increase awareness of the many excellent Italian wine varietals and wine-producing regions. The agency sent me four wines to sample: Masut de Rive Pinot Grigio, La Capranera Falanghina, Don Carlino Abruxxo Pecorino, and Donnikalia Ver,mentino di Sardegna.
Only one of these four labels, the Don Carlino Pecorino ($26.79), is carried by the Pa. Liquor Control Board. So I asked Nate Snelbaker, the retail wine specialist at the Fine Wine & Good Spirits Store in Hummelstown, for his general take on the four grapes and the kind of wine each produces. His store is located at 1158 Mae St., which is in Dauphin County.
