There's polish but little that's modern about Joseph Tambellini Restaurant in Highland Park.
I like the place because it offers the best of Old Pittsburgh without caricature. You won't see framed photos as reminders of the city's former greatness, or its rise from the ashes.
You will not find shtick that's inevitable at places that have been christened as Pittsburgh institutions by national TV. I also like this restaurant because it's a reflection of values: how Pittsburghers have wanted to eat when they dressed up to dine out.
