It might not bode well for a restaurant when your first thought is: Are those edible?
They were thin breadsticks that towered out of a champagne glass so high that my friends and I had to move them aside in order to make eye contact when we sat down for dinner at La Sera in Wyckoff. The glass nearly toppled over as we did so, and we wondered whether they were an awkward centerpiece or something we were supposed to dip into olive oil.
The staff brought goat cheese with peppers and roasted garlic and cleared up the mystery – they were indeed meant to be eaten. We were relieved, and even more so when we later received a refill of reasonably sized breadsticks.
