It all started with a wrong turn. Unlike Springsteen, who just kept going, the Ferranti family decided to settle down. "We were trying to go to Little Italy in Baltimore," Sal Ferranti said, to "associate with people who might give us a lead seeking the American dream."
That wrong turn might have diverted the family's course from Baltimore, but it introduced them to Delta – a small, southern York County town just a football throw from the Mason-Dixon Line. As one resident put it, you can roll out of bed in Delta one morning and in next-door Whiteford, Maryland, the next.
