Antoinette DeLeo Bassett celebrated her 100th Birthday on Sunday, November 5, 2017. Antoinette was born on the DeLeo Homestead farm in Coalfield, Washington, on November 5, 1917. She was the middle child of 13 siblings (3 sons and 10 daughters) of John Joseph DeLeo and Louise Marie DeLeo.
Antoinette and her siblings worked like a crew of dairy farmers: haying, milking cows and tending a garden plot and a small flock of chickens. Her mother insisted that the children attend school, and thus Antoinette and siblings walked over a mile to Coalfield Grade School. She graduated from 8th grade in 1932 and from Renton High School in 1937.
