Victor DeRenzi, the artistic director of Sarasota Opera who led the company's 28-year effort to produce every note of Giuseppe Verdi's music known to exist, has been knighted by the Italian government.
The government bestowed the title of Cavaliere dell'ordine della Stella d'Italia (Knight of the Order of the Star of Italy), presented to those who help spread Italian culture throughout the world. The award was presented by Dr. Gloria Marina Bellelli, the Italian Consul General in Miami at the Italian National Day Celebration on June 1, which marked the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the Italian Republic.
