Italian culture and the achievements of Italian-Americans are highlighted during the month of October. In Springfield, Massachusetts, where the mayor is the son of Italian immigrants, an Italian flag will fly over city hall this month.
The Italian Cultural Center of western Massachusetts has several events, including a big festival planned Columbus Day weekend, according to the group's president Lou Planzo. "Unlike many other organizations that have dwindling membership, ours continues to grow. We have over 500 members in the Italian Cultural Center," said Planzo.
