For the second consecutive year, Italy is confirmed as the country with the highest number of companies in the FT1000, the annual ranking of the fastest growing companies in Europe, published by the Financial Times with Statista. In the 2022 edition, there are 235 Italian companies. Of these, 20 are among the top 100, and one conquers the top 10, coming in 9th place overall. It is Winelivery, an app for home delivery of wine and drinks, created in 2016 by three under-30s, Francesco Magro, Andrea Antinori and Giovanni Roberto.

Its revenue grew by 303.73% in the period analyzed by the British newspaper (2017-2020). The absolute growth rate is over 6400%. In 2020, the last year considered by the FT and Statista's research, Winelivery recorded a turnover of almost 7.5 million euros, six times that of 2019.

"When we started, with the first warehouse in my apartment, we didn't expect to grow so fast, but we hoped for it," comments Francesco Magro, CEO of Winelivery, which in six years has grown from 3 to 40 employees, 70 cities covered by the service, 7 million euros in investments raised. "In 2022, we aim to consolidate growth, arrive abroad and increasingly in the Italian provinces, also with our Winelivery Pop, digital wine bars (where everything is ordered via app)".

The recipe for growth? "Maintaining a startup mentality, always agile even when growing, listening to the client and not giving up. Doing business is more similar to a marathon than to 100 meters, so you have to hang in there, don't give up in times of difficulty and always look for a solution to grow".

After Italy, the countries with the highest number of entries in the FT1000 are Germany (194 companies) and the United Kingdom (155).

Among the Italian new entries there are technology companies active in different fields, from fintech Credimi (31st) to drug e-commerce eFarma (74th), from proptech Homepal (115th) to green platform Treedom (120th).
