Pasta products from Italy could soon cost a lot more in the U.S. After the Commerce Department launched an anti-“dumping” probe into Italian pasta exports, the U.S. is set to charge a nearly 92% tariff on 13 of the largest Italian pasta exporters beginning in January, on top of the existing 15% tariff on goods from the European Union.
The rate is “preliminary,” an official told the Washington Post, and will be reviewed over the next few months before it is applied. If nothing changes, the nearly 107% total levy will take effect in January.
