US tariffs continue to burden Italian wine exports. According to an analysis by the industry association Unione Italiana Vini (UIV), exports to the USA decreased in value by 17 percent in the first year after the introduction of punitive tariffs – from April 2025 to March 2026. This corresponds to a loss of more than 340 million euros.
Thus, the export value fell from 1.99 billion to 1.65 billion euros within twelve months. At the same time, the exported quantities reached the lowest level in ten years. According to UIV, many Italian producers had to lower their prices to partially offset the burden on importers due to the tariffs. Still wines were particularly affected (-19%), while sparkling wines recorded a value decline of 14 percent.
