Italy is increasingly proving that a great vacation does not have to mean leaving a four-legged member of the family at home. The country has climbed into the global top 10 for international pet travel, ranking 8th among the destinations recorded in the 2026 Global Pet Travel Data Report.
The ranking reflects a much broader transformation in tourism. Dogs and cats are increasingly treated as permanent members of the household, and travelers are choosing destinations, accommodations and even transportation according to whether their pets can come along.
