This Italian Retirement Home’s Approach to Aging Could Be the Key to a Longer Life

If you watched the Oscars last weekend, you may have noticed there was an opera song among the nominees in the Best Original Song category. It was from Viva Verdi!, a documentary spotlighting a home in Milan where retired opera singers and musicians reside in perfect harmony.

Casa di Riposo per Musicisti (more popularly known as Casa Verdi) was founded by renowned Italian opera composer Giuseppe Verdi, and he requested for the home to officially open for musicians to reside in upon his death—so it did that very year in 1901. Over a century later, the home is radiating with life, as retired musicians continue to fill its halls with music, preserving Verdi’s legacy in the very place he envisioned.
