The American Supercar That Borrowed An Italian Exotic Engine

By: Robert Percy

There are a lot of instances where cars have combined the best that Europe and the best that North America have to offer. It's actually a pretty sensible idea on the surface. European manufacturers tend to be better at making stylish cars that handle well, and North American automakers tend to be great at making cars that are more workmanlike, easy to fix, and with great straight-line performance.

Typically, in a combination like this, you might expect an Italian supercar to have an American engine. That was the case with the De Tomaso Pantera, where a Ford V8 was dropped into an Italian-designed and Italian-built supercar. So what reasonable gearhead would ever expect an American supercar to have an Italian engine? And yet, that's exactly what happened with this '90s oddity!
