Sardinia has completed one of the most dramatic tourism turnarounds in Italy. After being the country’s only region to record a decline in overnight stays in 2023, the island moved to first place for percentage growth in tourist flows in 2025, according to national and regional statistics.
The transformation occurred in just 2 years. Sardinia welcomed more than 5 million arrivals in 2025, generating approximately 21.9 million overnight stays. Visitors remained on the island for an average of 4.24 nights. Regional data indicate that overnight stays increased 15.9% compared with 2024 and 34.2% compared with 2023.
