Italy’s manufacturing identity continues to be shaped by the so-called “4 A” sectors – food, fashion, furniture, and automation – which together represent the core of the country’s global economic strength. These industries are deeply rooted in craftsmanship and local production traditions, combining design, technical expertise, and cultural heritage.
Today, they generate a total turnover of about €819.5 billion and a value added of €220.8 billion, accounting for 16.1% of Italy’s private economy. What makes these sectors particularly significant is their role in international trade. In 2025, exports linked to the 4 A industries reached €383.8 billion, equal to roughly 60.1% of Italy’s total exports.
