Leggerezza: A Night of Italian Community, Culture, and Celebration

By: Dino Bruce

Leggerezza inspired by the concept of “lightness” that Italo Calvino famously explored in his Six Memos for the Next Millennium, is the chosen theme for this first annual celebration dedicated to community, culture, and the spirit that animates Italian life. For Calvino, leggerezza was not superficiality, but a way of looking at the world with clarity, grace, and resilience - qualities that also shape the mission of the NOI Foundation Inc.

Hosted at the Italian American Cultural Society in Clinton Township, the event highlights the Foundation’s commitment to expanding Italian language and culture programs in local K–12 schools.

Guests will enjoy a buffet style dinner with appetizers and dessert, a performance by Sofia Roselli, and special presentations from the Consulate of Italy in Detroit and University of Michigan President Domenico Grasso. Conceived as an evening that honors both heritage and imagination, Leggerezza invites the community to reflect on the cultural values that continue to connect generations.

The community is warmly invited to join this meaningful celebration on April 23 at 6:00 pm. Tickets are $100 and include dinner, entertainment, and the full program; reservations are required at Leggerezza: Buy Tickets Online. The gathering will take place at the Italian American Cultural Society, located at 43843 Romeo Plank Road in Clinton Township, MI.

The NOI Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit operating under the jurisdiction of the Consulate of Italy in Detroit, continues its work in promoting Italian language education for children and young adults. Anyone interested in learning more—or in teaching Italian—may contact Executive Director Raffaella Medoro Naurato at [email protected] or visit noifdn.org for additional information.
