Italy’s richest towns revealed as small communities top income rankings

By: We the Italians Editorial Staff

Italy’s wealth map reveals a surprising reality: the richest communities are often tiny towns, not major cities. According to the latest tax data based on 2024 income declarations, the small municipality of Maccastorna, in the province of Lodi, ranks first in the country with an average annual income exceeding 72,000 euros.

With just a few dozen residents – about 76 people – Maccastorna’s top position reflects how a single high-income taxpayer can dramatically raise the local average. This highlights a key feature of Italy’s income rankings: in very small towns, statistical results can be heavily influenced by limited populations and individual wealth concentrations.
