Italy is undergoing a profound demographic and economic shift, where longer life expectancy is reshaping how wealth is distributed across generations. The result is a growing imbalance – one that increasingly separates older and younger Italians in terms of income, assets, and opportunities.
Today, more than 14 million people in Italy are over the age of 65, representing over 22% of the total population. This already places the country among the oldest in Europe. Projections suggest that by 2050 this number will rise to around 18 million, meaning nearly one out of every three Italians will be a senior citizen.
