Italy’s food innovation ecosystem is gaining momentum, with 118 startups, university spinoffs and innovative small and medium-sized companies developing technologies across the entire agrifood chain. Their work ranges from precision agriculture and alternative proteins to processing, logistics, traceability, personalized nutrition and waste reduction.
The companies were mapped in “Next-Gen Food – The Future of Food, the Food of the Future,” the fifth research report produced by Cariplo Factory. The study depicts an entrepreneurial system responding to shrinking farmland, climate pressure, scarce natural resources, geopolitical instability, inflation and continuing food waste.
