Italy is turning one of its busiest highways into a large-scale clean energy system, signaling a broader shift in how infrastructure can produce power. Along the A4 corridor between Brescia and Padua, construction has begun on a distributed solar project that will transform stretches of highway into an energy-generating network rather than just a transport route.
The initiative is built around a decentralized model. Instead of concentrating solar panels in a single location, the project spreads installations across multiple sites already used for highway operations.
