Italy is expanding its effort to recognize scientific excellence and innovation beyond its borders with three international awards promoted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
Applications are now open for the ninth edition of the Farnesina – Italian Bilateral Scientific Cooperation Award, the ninth edition of L’Innovazione che Parla Italiano, and the fourth edition of Science, She Says!, three programs designed to strengthen Italy’s scientific and technological network.
The Farnesina award targets Italian researchers under 40 who have distinguished themselves abroad through scientific work and international cooperation. The winner will receive approximately €15,000 to support a 3-month research stay at an Italian research institution, to be completed within 12 months of selection. The recipient will also present the project at the Conference of Scientific and Space Attachés and Agricultural Experts in Reggio Calabria in November 2026.
L’Innovazione che Parla Italiano focuses on technology startups operating abroad and founded by Italian citizens. The initiative recognizes companies with strong innovative potential and gives the winning startup the opportunity to showcase its work during the same Reggio Calabria conference.
Science, She Says! has an international scope. It honors 5 non-Italian female researchers under 40, selecting 1 winner from each of 5 geographical regions – Africa and the Middle East, Asia and the Pacific, Europe, Central and South America and the Caribbean, and North America.
The awards reflect a broader form of Italian scientific diplomacy connecting researchers, entrepreneurs and institutions across national borders. By supporting young Italian talent abroad while recognizing outstanding foreign women scientists, the initiative combines international cooperation with the promotion of Italy’s research system.
Application deadlines vary slightly by diplomatic office, falling between September 18 and September 22, 2026. Candidates must submit applications through the relevant Italian embassy or consulate according to the procedures specified in the calls.
