Italy is quickly emerging as one of Europe’s top destinations for international students, thanks to a combination of affordable education, a growing range of English-taught programmes, globally recognized universities, and a culturally vibrant environment. Over recent years, the country has attracted students from Europe, Asia, and Africa, establishing itself as a competitive alternative to traditional destinations such as the United Kingdom, Germany, and the United States.
Recent statistics indicate that Italy’s international student population has been expanding at an average rate of 10 percent per year since 2022, making it the second-fastest-growing study destination in Europe after Spain. By 2024, over 110,000 international students were enrolled across Italian universities, a 14 percent increase compared with 2019.
