Italian Workmen’s Club keeps heritage alive with annual sauce tasting

Members of Madison’s Italian Workmen’s Club gathered Sunday for an annual sauce tasting competition, bringing together homemade recipes, Italian traditions and community members. The event featured 10 to 12 different spaghetti sauces submitted by club members and others connected to the organization.

A panel of judges sampled each sauce and selected a favorite before attendees gathered for a spaghetti and meatball dinner. “It’s a fun thing to do and another way to connect with our heritage,” said Joe Triplin, president of the Italian Workmen’s Club. “We’ll have 50 or 60 people here and 10 or 12 different sauces, and it’ll be a fun afternoon.”
