Italian American museum planned for Suffolk County

By: Gary Haber

Plans are moving ahead for a museum in Suffolk County celebrating the history and contributions of Italian Americans on Long Island. Organizers plan to form several committees, including to identify potential sites and raise funds for the museum, which would be run by a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation, Robert Fonti said Monday, Oct. 19, at Suffolk County’s “A Taste of Italy” celebration at the H. Lee Dennison Building in Hauppauge.

Fonti, of Huntington, is president of the Lt. Det. Joseph Petrosino Association in America and is involved in planning for the museum along with Joseph Scelsa, founder and president of the Italian American Museum in Manhattan’s Little Italy neighborhood.
