In an age of social media, artificial intelligence and increasingly fragmented public debate, Italians continue to place their greatest trust in people whose authority is based on knowledge and professional expertise.
The 2026 Ipsos Global Trustworthiness Index offers a particularly encouraging picture for science and medicine, which remain firmly at the top of the country’s credibility rankings. The survey, conducted across 31 countries, shows that 64% of Italians consider scientists trustworthy, while 61% say the same about doctors.
