On October 3, 2026, some of the country’s most fascinating private archives, historic libraries, palaces, museums and family collections will open their doors to the public, offering an unusual way to explore centuries of Italian history through documents that are rarely accessible.
The occasion is the fifth edition of “Carte in Dimora. Archivi e Biblioteche: storie tra passato e futuro,” organized by the Associazione Dimore Storiche Italiane. The initiative brings together more than 110 historic archives and libraries across the country, transforming documents, photographs, maps, manuscripts and business records into a nationwide journey through Italian memory.
