A generation rewriting the rules of work, independence and the Italian future

By: We the Italians Editorial Staff

Young Italians are redefining what it means to build a successful adult life. New research published in 2026 paints a complex but surprisingly coherent picture – a generation that values work but refuses to let a job define everything, seeks independence while facing significant economic obstacles, and thinks about the future in very different terms from its parents and grandparents.

Work-life balance is perhaps the clearest example. According to the new Gen Z Intelligence Report, 60.4% of young Italians consider the balance between professional and private life a top priority. Stability and security follow at 47.6%, while fixed compensation stands at 39.6% and career ambition at 29.8%.
