As cities around the world search for ways to combat rising temperatures and improve quality of life, Italy's urban forests are becoming an increasingly valuable resource. A recent analysis of Italy's provincial capitals highlights the municipalities with the greatest concentration of public trees relative to their population, revealing how long-term environmental planning is transforming many Italian cities into greener and healthier places to live.
Leading the national ranking is Modena, in the Emilia Romagna region, with 117.4 public trees for every 100 residents. Trieste, in Friuli Venezia Giulia, follows with 113.7, while Cremona, in Lombardy, ranks third with 107.5. Mantua, also in Lombardy, records 94.2 trees per 100 inhabitants, followed by Brescia with 86.9.
