Italy's largest shipbuilder is looking far beyond conventional ship design. Fincantieri has announced that it is actively studying nuclear propulsion as part of its long-term strategy, with the goal of developing a vessel powered by a nuclear reactor by 2040.
While such a project remains years away, the company believes advanced nuclear technology could become a key element of the next generation of maritime transportation and naval operations. Speaking about the initiative, Fincantieri CEO Pierroberto Folgiero explained that the company is evaluating third- and fourth-generation nuclear technologies while seeking industrial partners capable of contributing to the entire supply chain.
