Frank DePasquale honored in Boston for culinary excellence and philanthropy

Frank DePasquale, one of the leading figures in Boston’s Italian American community and a driving force behind the transformation of the North End, has received the 2026 Excellence and Lifetime Achievement in Culinary Arts and Philanthropy Award.

The recognition was presented by the Italian Heritage Month Committee during a special celebration held on September 21 in Boston’s North End as part of the 2026 Italian Heritage Month program, organized under the auspices of the Consulate General of Italy in Boston.

The award recognizes a career that has combined entrepreneurship, Italian culinary culture and a longstanding commitment to the community. Through DePasquale Ventures, Frank DePasquale has built a remarkable collection of restaurants and businesses that have helped establish the North End as one of America’s best-known Italian dining destinations.

His restaurants include Bricco, Trattoria Il Panino, Mare, Assaggio, Quattro, Aqua Pazza and Umbria, alongside Bricco Panetteria, Bricco Salumeria and Pasta Shop and Bricco Suites. His latest major project is the redevelopment of Cross Street between Hanover and Salem Streets, conceived as a new gateway to the North End with restaurants, shops and spaces inspired by Italy.

But the award also celebrates DePasquale’s philanthropy. Over the years, he has supported North End churches and schools, charitable initiatives, the Feast of Saint Gennaro and the North End Historical Museum. His contribution to the latter has been particularly significant, including providing premises rent-free and supporting construction and renovation work.

For DePasquale, therefore, the recognition goes well beyond his success as a restaurateur. It celebrates a lifetime spent strengthening the neighborhood in which he built his businesses, preserving its Italian identity while investing in its future – and helping make Boston’s North End one of the most recognizable Italian American communities in the United States.
