Ferrero expands its U.S. breakfast strategy with Purely Elizabeth acquisition

By: We the Italians Editorial Staff

Italian food giant Ferrero is strengthening its position in the United States with another strategic acquisition, signing an agreement to buy Purely Elizabeth, a fast-growing American brand specializing in granola, oatmeal and cereal.

Founded in Boulder, Colorado, in 2009 by Elizabeth Stein, Purely Elizabeth has developed a strong presence in the better-for-you food market. Its products combine ingredients including oats, whole grains, nuts and seeds, while the company recently expanded into protein-focused products. Sales have more than doubled over the past 2 years.

Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. The transaction is expected to close in the coming months, subject to regulatory approvals and customary conditions. Purely Elizabeth will continue operating as a standalone brand, with Stein remaining founder and CEO alongside the existing management team.

For Ferrero, whose roots date to 1946 in Alba, Piedmont, the deal represents another step in a major transformation of its American business. The Italian family-owned group now has more than 35 brands sold in over 170 countries and employs more than 47,000 people worldwide.

The Purely Elizabeth agreement follows Ferrero’s $3.1 billion acquisition of WK Kellogg Co, completed in February 2026. That transaction gave Ferrero control of a major cereal portfolio in the United States, Canada and the Caribbean.

Purely Elizabeth also complements Ferrero’s growing better-for-you portfolio, which includes Power Crunch in North America, Eat Natural and FULFIL in Europe and Bold Snacks in Brazil.

The latest acquisition shows how Ferrero is moving far beyond its traditional confectionery identity. From its Italian origins in Alba, the company is increasingly building a diversified global food business – with the United States and the American breakfast table at the center of that expansion.
