The farewell gathering organized by Gruppo Esponenti Italiani, with a lunch at a storied Manhattan club, turned into a long conversation about the Italian demographic crisis, citizenship reform, and American politics.
The Consul General also spoke his experiences in New York, sharing his perspective on the city’s vulnerabilities, the weight of global business, and, above all, the human side of diplomacy. This was evident in the most intense moment of the meeting, when the Consul, responding to questions from GEI President Mario Calvo Platero, recalled the case of the Italian student who committed suicide at a boarding school.
