Erasmus+ exchange connects Montana Tech, Italian university

Four graduate students say their academic and professional careers were enriched through an Erasmus+ exchange between Montana Technological University and the University of Camerino in Italy. The collaboration is supported by a €47,580 Erasmus+ grant. Through it, students experienced ecological restoration and geochemical research in Yellowstone National Park, including research that focused on post-fire forest recovery and geothermal ecosystems.

Professor Robert Pal says his long-standing partnership with the University of Camerino has grown into a transformative opportunity that broadens students’ international perspectives and research skills. Students and faculty also collaborated on NSF-funded research following the 2024 Biscuit Basin hydrothermal explosion. Participants also co-authored a paper published in Forest Ecology and Management.
