A statue of explorer Christopher Columbus was unveiled in Naples during a news conference held by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis Thursday afternoon. The conference was held at the Knights of Columbus Council #4357. P
resident and CEO of Visit Florida, Bryan Griffin, and the consul general of Italy in Miami, Michele Mistò, were also in attendance. DeSantis said the statue is meant to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the U.S., and it was supposed to take place on Monday for Columbus Day, but Hurricane Isaias delayed it. DeSantis also said Columbus is a hero in the state.
