One of the most ambitious transportation projects in the United States is set to include a significant Italian presence. ASTM, the infrastructure and mobility group controlled by Italy’s Gavio family, has emerged as a winner in the competition related to the redevelopment of New York’s Penn Station, the busiest rail hub in North America.

Located in the heart of Manhattan, Penn Station serves more than 600,000 passengers on a typical day and remains a critical gateway for commuter, regional, and intercity rail travel. Modernizing the aging facility has long been considered a priority for New York and federal transportation authorities, with investment plans valued in the billions of dollars.

ASTM’s success in the competition marks an important achievement for Italian engineering and infrastructure expertise abroad. Through its North American operations, the group has spent years expanding its footprint in the United States, participating in large-scale transportation, highway, and mobility projects.

The Penn Station initiative is expected to improve passenger flow, accessibility, safety, and overall travel experience while helping accommodate future growth in rail traffic across the Northeast Corridor. The broader redevelopment effort is also viewed as a key component of New York’s long-term transportation strategy and urban renewal plans.

For ASTM, the result strengthens its position in one of the world’s most competitive infrastructure markets. For Italy, it represents another example of a national company playing a leading role in a landmark American project.

As New York prepares for decades of future growth, Italian know-how will contribute to shaping the future of a transportation hub that serves hundreds of thousands of travelers every day.
