In the mountains of Sardinia, a small Italian village is attracting international scientific attention for an extraordinary reason: its residents, particularly women, appear to have an exceptional chance of living to 100. New research suggests that Bolotana, a community of approximately 2,300 people in central Sardinia, could become the latest addition to the world's celebrated Blue Zones.
The study, published on October 5, 2026, in the scientific journal Frontiers in Aging, reveals that women in Bolotana who reach age 70 have an estimated 13.83% probability of celebrating their 100th birthday.
