On Sept. 13, 2001, Vietnam War veteran Edward Krueger Connors Jr. was scheduled to fly from Los Angeles to Rome to purchase a 12th-century medieval castle near Orvieto. But Connors’ flight, like many international trips that week, was cancelled following the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
The property, located in the Italian hill town of the Umbria region, was complete with 10 acres of vineyards. Connors decided it wasn’t the time to leave the U.S. and subsequently cancelled the purchase agreement. But now, nearly a quarter century later, he’s decided it’s time to make the move.
